The Transient Chair
Object, Performance
Tarcento, 2018
This artwork shows how the very famous Danish game Lego can be used as a medium to reflect on the shape and interventions which can be done on a simple and common object such as a chair.
Lego allows playing with the shape in a way that would be impossible with other materials. In fact, thanks to its system, I could intervene and modify the shape directly and immediately.
This was a 24h project (from the pieces sorting, to designing, to making and altering). Starting from my old pieces of lego, which I was playing with when I was young, I have approached this game more seriously with a design and artistic perspective, trying to use and exploit it for its best qualities.
I created three different versions starting from the same object. In all of them, the shape of a chair is still recognizable, but not so functional, common and pleasing for the eyes anymore.
During the exhibitions, I regularly change the artwork version (creating the three different shapes). This performance connected to the artwork shows how a simple artifact as a chair can change shape, altering the perception we have of it.
